The price and ease of the location
It was a bit run down. The room was small and the bathrooms needed updating. But for the price it was just fine.
The Staff was great, made me feel like family. After checking in, KP took his time and helped us plan our day. We did not feel rushed or as if we were a burden. He really understands customer service, and how to treat guests.
It was clean and close to dining and coffee. Rooms were clean.
Rooms were very small, no closets. Very expensive for this type of room.
It was quiet and clean even though in need of updates. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Manager tried to respond to the problems we encountered.
We had to move twice to find a tolerable room. The first room wasn't made up after last use. The second was heavily smoked in & the outer door lock didn't work. The third room sink didn't drain plus other problems shown in photos, such as bathroom vent fan broken, shower door won't latch, sink leaked on floor, paint peeling, drapes not wide enough, etc.
Front desk gave us a great recommendation for dinner, turned out to be fantastic. Across the street from the best coffee shop I've ever been to.

I can't say. It was the most I have ever paid for a motel, and it was the shabbiest place I have ever stayed. 175$ a night for brocken door, brocken sink, spiders in the bathroom and rust on the fixtures! Worst hotel/motel experience ever!

The sheets were wonderful! Room was clean & comfortable for the price.There was no coffee or continental breakfast, but there was a great cafe across the street.
This was the worst value for money out of all of the hotels that I have stayed in during my life (I'm 81 so that's a lot of hotels). The cost of 368.63 for three nights (Sat, Sun, Mon) was excessive when viewed from the lack of comfort. Only one lamp out of two by the bed worked. The bathroom sink was mounted in a cabinet with one door missing, with the exposed hinges gaping. There were no hangers for clothes. The walls were whitewashed or painted white on plaster, no decor at all (could have been a prison). The location was quite far from the beach or the town of Santa Cruz proper, so location was not of great value. During my second day the room card key failed and the maid at first didn't want to admit me, although she had seen me occupying the room. The person at the front desk who had checked me in and taken my credit card said "Oh, are you staying over?" Did she think I had paid an exorbitant sum for one night in a prison room?? Finally, on the last day, Monday, I left the room around 7am and first returned about 5:30 pm to find that the room had not been made up!! This is the bad motel located on Ocean Street, there is another quite good one a few blocks North on Plymouth St.!! Unfortunately it was full.
The shower dripped constantly.No air conditioner. The television remote did'nt work because it was missing 1 battery. There was no hot water at the wash basin.
The only thing good about this motel, it was close to the bus line.
I hope that all National 9 motels are not like this one. I had to stay for 7 days because it was Non-refundable. The Proprietor was rude and has no social skills. Since you do not want complaints, I work for the State of ca and do lots of traveling. This was the first and last time I will stay in a National 9 motel. It was a nasty and disgusting place to stay. I have passed the word to my co-workers to avoid this motel chain. If you are interested in the horrible experience I had staying at this motel, please feel free to contact me by email and I will be happy to attach a copy of my complaint letter that I forwarded to the corporate office.
This place was a dump! Broken cabinets, broken plaster, broken tile, shower water was cold then super hot, tv was manual, no remote, hard mattress, No bible. ( don't care, but every place in the world has a bible)! Clogged drains, broken curtains, cars parked on front doorstep. Huge money!
Parking arrangement is ridiculous. Easily possible to get stuck in the parking lot.
